Plastic irrigation pipe cannot usually be traced using a standard electromagnetic cable locator because it does not carry an electrical signal. We use specialised pulse-generating equipment to introduce a controlled mechanical vibration into the water line. That signal can then be followed above ground using sensitive acoustic equipment. Depending on the system layout and available access, the pulse may be introduced through a tap, valve, sprinkler outlet or another suitable connection point. This can allow us to trace the direction of buried PVC, poly, HDPE and PEX pipework without cutting a trench across the property.
